Jerry L. Johnson

Jerry L. Johnson, 81, of Woodlawn, went home to be with our Lord at 3:06 a.m., Thursday, July 31, 2025, at SSM Health Good Samaritan Hospital, in Mt. Vernon, with his loving family by his side. He was born July 27, 1944, in West Frankfort, the son of William E. and Edith M. (Cox) Johnson. He married the love of his life, Sharion Meadows, on June 15, 1963, and they were blessed with 62 years of marriage. In addition to his wife, Sharion Johnson of Woodlawn, he is survived by daughter, Deanna Lynch of Sesser; two grandsons, Andrew Lynch and wife Amanda of Woodlawn, and Kyle Lynch and fiancée Amy Dixon of Sesser; three great-granddaughters, Hayden and Kinsley Lynch of Woodlawn and Eliza Lynch of Sesser; sister-in-law, Vera Hayes of Mt. Vernon; and several nephews, nieces, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Genevieve Fanning and husband John C., Shirley Elliston and husband Elwin (Abe), Greta Calvin and husband Robert, and Mona Knox and husband Sonnie; brothers, Lloyd Johnson, Richard Johnson, and William “Bill Boy” Johnson and wife Beverly; sisters-in-law, Shirley Anderson and husband Michael Anderson, Betty Southard and husband Gale, Ida Reeves, Reta Meadows, and Elizabeth Ann Meadows; brothers-in-law, Edward Tate and John H. Meadows; special nephew, Dennis Calvin; and several aunts, uncles, and cousins. Mr. Johnson worked at Kraft Foods in Jacksonville, and then General Radiator in Mt. Vernon, until it closed in 1985. He then worked at Continental Tire in Mt. Vernon until his retirement. He attended Woodlawn High School and graduated in 1963. Funeral services for Mr. Johnson will be held at 1:00 p.m., Monday, August 4, 2025, at Woodlawn Christian Church, with Ronnie Mick officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Vernon Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. until the hour of service, Monday, August 4, 2025, at the church.
